Forces Families Association
Is there someone in your family who has been a member of the Armed Services,
the Reserves or the Territorial Army? They and their families are one of the
more than 10 million people in Britain entitled to help from SSAFA, the
Soldiers, Sailors and Airmens Families Association, working to make sure that
no serving or ex-service men, women or their families endure any unnecessary
hardship.
SSAFA, together with the Forces Help Society, offers practical help to
individual Service, or ex-Service, men or women and their dependants in time
of need. They will provide support in maintaining family links and help with
financial, legal and medical problems. SSAFA provide staff for Service Health
Visitors, Midwives and Social Workers overseas, in addition to more than 5000
voluntary workers in the UK and Ireland.
SSAFA cares for those on active service, and their families, with advice
centres, emergency help where necessary, and making sure that news from home
is passed on speedily. But much of their work is caring also for ex-service
men and women and their families. Here they can offer friendship,
particularly for the ageing lonely and housebound, home visiting, help in
dealing with officialdom, comfort and care in bereavement and unstinting
assistance with problems.
You can help by becoming a SSAFA volunteer or by making a donation to your
local branch funds. Or you can get more details by calling the SSAFA and FHS
Central Office on 020 7403 8783.
