Harris HospisCare

Working for the local community, the Harris Hospiscare (previously South Bromley HospisCare) charity provides essential care and support to local residents who are suffering with dangerous illnesses. The Hospiscare team support people in their own homes, to give relief to patients with conditions such as cancer, motor neurone disease and aids.

The team includes 13 nurses, and 4 doctors plus support staff in the social, bereavement and physiotherapy disciplines. Advice and support is given to patients and their families, while maintaining links between hospital and community services.

The aim is to provide holistic care which recognises the needs of carers as well as patients. Support includes pain and sympton control for sufferers at home and also for in-patients at Farnborough Hospital. Additional help is given at the Harris Day Hospice where there are regular activities for patients and carers including outings and complementary therapies.

Although the National Health Service contributes 21 percent of the annual budget of around one million pounds, the remainder has to be raised by voluntary donations.

There is a wide range of opportunities for voluntary work within the HospisCare team, including patient care, bereavement couselling, driving, working in the charity shops, office and reception work, administration and fund-raising. Harris HospisCare is a local charity, providing local services for local people, if you can help with a donation, contact the Appeals Director at Caritas House, Tregony Road, Orpington, Kent BR6 9XA, Tele: 01689 825755 Fax: 01689 892999. email: info@harrishospiscare.org.uk
