Bromley MIND
Across the country, one person in five is likely at some time in their lives
to suffer from some degree of mental illness which requires treatment. Often
this can be dealt with easily, but sometimes problems are more difficult to
resolve. There can be times when sufferers and their families don't know
which way to turn.
Every year about 48,000 people in Bromley go to their doctor with a mental
health problem. Bromley MIND - a local voluntary organisation
affiliated to the National Association for Mental Health - is concerned that
those among us who are unfortunate enough to become mentally unwell should be
properly understood, and should have assistance and support. MIND works
closely with the family and friends of sufferers too, because caring for
someone with a mental illness is often a difficult, 24-hour a day job,
frequently with little practical help.
Bromley MIND care services include a day centre for the elderly
with sitting service for their care-ers; the Springpark Project which is an
outreach social and support group, and Residential Services. Regular groups
are held for young people, meeting the specific needs of the 18 to 35 age
group; crafts and hobbies groups; relaxation classes; outings; weekend "Pop
Ins" and socials.
MIND is working to alleviate suffering, combat prejudice, relieve social
isolation and promote positive mental health. An information office is open
Monday to Friday between 9.30 am and 3.00 pm. and Saturday from 10.00 am to
3.00 pm. at 20b Hayne Road Beckenham, or you can telephone them on 0800 018
4014.
