The Bromley LATCH project, that is Householders and Lodgers
living Amicably Together in a Caring Home, was set up by Bromley
Churches Housing Action as a response to the problem of single
homelessness. It aims to help single people aged between 16 and
25 looking for a home. Latch operates a register of Householders
to match them to potential Lodgers. Official policy presumes
that the under 18's will live at home, however, young people
under 18 forced to leave home are often unable to find work or
obtain benefits.
The LATCH Register requires both applicants and Householders to
be interviewed by a Project Worker before registration onto the
scheme. A visit and assessment is made of the accommodation
before registration can be completed. The scheme will aim to
match applicants to Householders with mutually suitable
placements. References are obtained for both the Householder and
the Lodger and rent is payable for the use of the room.
Ongoing support and information are offered to both the
Householder and the Lodger during the placement.
All interviews are by appointment only. For further information
or an appointment you can contact the Latch Project at Saxon
House, 2 Ethelbert Road, Bromley, BR1 1JA, or telephone them on
020 8460 0042.
