Kent Association for the Blind
The Kent Association for the Blind is the leading charity in
Kent, Bromley and Bexley for people who are blind or partially
sighted. They provide rehabilitation training, low vision
training, a learning disability service, child and parent
support, mobility training, shops, sports and talking newspaper
services. They can give advice on how to register with the DHSS
and provide large print information for everyday tasks.
If you have problems preparing food, they advise on the use of
kitchen utensils and liquid level indicators, cooker control
markers, lighting and decor. The services by local authorities
and utilities such as gas, electricity and telephones are also
covered in their information booklet. They also advise on
walking and travelling about, reading and writing.
Locally, the KAB provide social clubs in Bromley, Beckenham,
Chislehurst and Orpington. There is a craft class and pub groups
in Chislehurst, Locksbottom, Orpington, Beckenham and West
Wickham. There is also a Bowls Club in St Mary Cray and short
mat bowls at the Pavilion in Bromley. The Theatre Group enjoy
visits to the Churchill Theatre on Saturdays. Volunteers are
also welcomed, as are support donations. For this and more
