BATH Disability Support Services
BATH was started in 1968 by a group of people with physical disabilities in Bromley, initially as a pressure group. It soon formed a loose alliance with other key organisations in the Borough such as Mencap, Scope and Age Concern, providing information where appropriate for people with disabilities, for older people, professionals and organisations.
The Independent Living Centre at Lewis House, part of the Disabled Living Foundation network, is staffed by State Registered Occupational Therapists who assess those living with a disability and make recommendations about the aids equipment and adaptations that can help, with safety, comfort, independence and dignity. Appointments can be made Monday to Wednesday only.
BATH also manages a Respite Holiday Service in conjunction with Social Services to enable residents in the Borough with disabilities, who are not in residential care and could not otherwise afford a holiday, to have a respite break. Options include individual and group holidays and activity breaks for those requiring higher levels of care.
The BATH Community Transport Service, funded by the Community Fund, is available to anyone with a disability, requiring transport, with driver, or on a self-drive basis. Charges are based on mileage from BATH premises in Beckenham.
BATH provide disability awareness training and consultancy services which are part funded by the Bridge House Trust. The consultancy team undertake access audits and disability awareness training, tackling the barriers faced by people in gaining access to public services, education and employment. Advice is given on good practice, disability etiquette and implementation of the law.
