Bromley Alcohol Advice
Most people believe that they are sensible about the amount of alcohol they
drink, so it may surprise you to know that in a recent survey a quarter of
Bromley's adult population were shown to be consuming well over the sensible
limit! That amounts to 60,000 people in Bromley drinking more than the danger
limit of 50 measures of spirit a week for men, or 35 measures a week for
women. Since three quarters of Bromley homes have one or more cars, some of
these people are likely to be drivers as well.
In fact, in a recent national survey, only half those people interviewed said
that they never drink while driving, and the "over 25 pints a week" man will
probably be over the legal driving limit every day of the week! The best
advice for drivers is don't drink and drive.
If you are not driving, still keep within the sensible limits of 14 units a
week for women and 21 units a week for men. A unit is half a pint of beer,
one glass of wine or a single measure of spirits. If you think you may be
drinking more than this try keeping a "drink diary" for a week, and reduce the
overall amount by having two or three alcohol free days each week, or
alternate drinks with a soft drink.
Apart from the obvious dangers of excess alcohol, remember that if you feel
unwell, are over tired or taking medication you should avoid drinking alcohol.
Never drink while doing jobs at home or at work. Always avoid drinking on an
empty stomach and know how much you have had to drink. If you can't remember
how many drinks you have had, it's time to stop. If you need help or advice about alcohol, the Bromley Alcohol Advisory Service will help, you can contact them on the following number: 020 8663 6883, for confidential help.
